First of all, she NEVER looked this happy when she danced with ABT, I think it was because ABT’s reliance on classic, story ballets didn’t suit her. She’s a strong, athletic dancer, for better or worse, she exemplifies what I think most people would picture as “All American” and that doesn’t tend to suit ABT’s choreography which favors classical Russian training. She was the square peg forever trying to fit the endless Bayaderes and Don Quixotes (I recoiled at the thought of a Hallberg/Wiles DQ). I went out of my way to avoid her when she with ABT even though I liked the idea of her, there should be American Principals in a company with “American” in the title. She’s a gifted dancer and I’m glad that she’s found fulfillment with Ballet Next, I hope that they are around for a long time so I can see her let loose with a contemporary company.
